F.A.Q

  • I bought a Conure from someone else, and they don't offer extended help.  Can you help me?

~~~~~~We will do anything we can to help you work with your baby.  Contact us at kshe232@yahoo.com.  Please understand we are not vets and not experts, but will offer our expertise to make sure you  have a pleasurable experience with your baby conure.
  • Do you breed the babies that you sell?
~~~~~~~~Yes!  We breed many of the babies that we sell.  And we will make sure that you know if we have bred or 'raised' the babies we offer.  However, we will offer links to breeders we feel are reputable (by our own experience only), and we do offer handfeeding and raising of species we do not currently breed.  Please contact us for further information.
  • Do you ship Conure babies?

Yes, but with conditions.  We must feel the babies will withstand the trip!  We offer young, handfed babies, but they must be weaned, and the weather must be appropriate for the age of the bird.
  • How do you ship Conures?

~~~~They are shipped via  Delta Airlines.  We have had such significant success with Delta that we prefer to ship this airline.  If this is not possible, we will consider Continental and we do have a proven track with this airline as well.  The birds arrive in an airline approved carrier .  They travel with fresh fruit so that they stay hydrated.  Temperatures must be above 50F for the duration of the trip.
We will also drive a significant distance and prefer this to shipment.  Please contact us if you are anywhere east of the Mississippi.
  • How much is shipping?
~~~~~~Shipping is $150.00, unless airlines raise prices.  This includes the modified carrier, which you keep, and is useful for transporting your Conure.

  • Do you take Paypal?

~~~~~Yes!  We also accept Money Orders, personal checks (though we will hold the parrots until the check has cleared).
  • Do you accept payment plans for Conure babies?
~~~~~We will take deposits to hold our WEANED babies, but the birds must be purchased within 30 days of the deposit.  We feel it is important for babies to go home, bond with their new families and settle into their homes within a certain period.  IF this is of interest, please contact us.

~~~~~
  • Where are you located?
~~~~Reading, PA   19606   We are most happy to deliver our babies within a wide range of this area code.
  • Since I am local, can I come visit my baby before I take her home?

~~~~Yes!  We love visitors!  All you  need to do is make an appointment, since you will be coming to our home.  We will not allow visitation to babies that  are not weaned, but we encourage you to visit the little weaned conure of your choice.
  • Will my Conure baby be tame?
~~~~Yes!  They are raised as part of our family, with DAILY, if not HOURLY handling!  They will be exposed to new foods, children, noise....alll of the things they will experience in your home.

  • Can I take my Conure baby home before it is fully weaned?

~~~~~No.  We will only sell fully weaned babies. Hand feeding takes lots of practice, patience and knowledge.  Many problems can arise when hand feeding. We have been doing this for a long time, and know what we are doing!
  • How come you don't take pictures as soon as babies are born?
~~~~~~Since all our babies are parent incubated, it really depends on the personalities of the parents.  Most of our pairs are SUPER protective of their babies and eggs.  It is much more important to allow our breeders to raise happy chicks than to provide pictures.

  • Do you Gavage feed or tube feed all babies?

~~~~~No.  Gavage feeding is "quick" and inpersonal.  We have found that feeding time is a great way to bond with our chicks.  We prefer to feed with syringes. We have found that the close interaction, with a feeding method that allows the chick to "accept or decline" gives the babies a greater sense of self and more control over the feeding process.  Our babies are waiting for us at the door of their cage  and know feeding time as a pleasant and interactive experience.
  • Do you force wean, or wean on a strict schedule?
~~~~No!  Our babies are abundance weaned.  This means that they are offered food by syringe until they decline this method of feeding repeatedly.  This ensures that babies have chosen to eat and drink on their own to the point where they no longer need supplemental feedings.  It is a bit more time consuming, but a great way for our babies to learn the joy of eating a variety of foods on their own.
  • Are your Conure babies "Fully Fledged"?

~~~~~~Yes!  All babies are fully fledged!  We allow them full flight for at least 3 weeks prior to clipping wings.  All birds LOVE to fly and NEED to learn to not only fly, but LAND!  This is for their safety.  If they are ever scared, they can fly and know how to land without injury. We must admit, this is one of our most joyous times with our birds.  They will fly to us on command, follow us from room to room and  we do postpone the need to clip wings until the babies are ready to move to new homes whenever possible.
  • Do you take the eggs from the parents?
~~~~~NO!  Parents incubate eggs!  This is the natural way, and makes for more sane breeding birds and a better socialized healthy baby bird!  There is evidence that babies are MUCH healthier if they are initially raised by their parents and then pulled a few weeks (usually 2-3) later for hand feeding and raising.  Babies that are left with their parents for the first couple of weeks have a stronger immune system and show healthier physical and emotional development than incubator raised babies.  The only exception to the incubation rule is if the parents break eggs, or maim the babies!  In this case we will either NOT breed the pair, or incubate the eggs

  • Does my baby come home healthy?

~~~~~Yes!  We guarantee our birds and will refund your money if health problems arise.  We work hard to ensure your babies are healthy and happy.
  • Is there a difference in Male and Female personalities?
~~~~~No.    Honestly, it is all individual personality!  Some of our babies are inquisitive and outgoing, some a little more timid.  But all our babies are sold at an age where they will be most adaptive to their new environment.  We have found, as far as conures go, it is much more about their personality than their sex.
  • What types of Conures do you breed right now?

~~~~~As of 1/2011, we tend to concentrate on ARATINGA conures, including Jendays, Nandays, Patagonian and Blue Crowns.  We have some Cherry Head babies coming along.... we do work with other breeders that offer us Pyrrhura conures and may have a variety of color variations available... please check our website often for babies available.
